Located in the heart of Restoration Plaza, the Audelco and Obie award winning Billie Holiday Theatre (BHT) is the only professional resident theatre company in Brooklyn, and sets the standard for performing arts and serious theatre in Central Brooklyn.  Established in 1972, BHT has a well-earned reputation for providing outstanding professional theatre and music productions that are affordable to families.  

 

Serving some 30,000 people annually for more than 30 years, the BHT seats 200, has a 36-week season, and provides a training ground for aspiring theatre professionals.  The theatre has launched the careers of many fine and notable artists and playwrights over the years, including Samuel L. Jackson, Debbie Allen, and Samm-Art Williams.

 Steal Away
October 26 - December 30, 2006

Steal Away  written by Ramona King is about  five upstanding church ladies who raise funds to send young Black women to college by holding bake sales, church suppers and oh, …..robbing banks!  Steal Away is a lighthearted, outrageous comedy for the entire family.

 

Freeda Peoples
February 17 – April 1, 2007

Back by popular demand, the most requested production of the past decade….Freeda Peoples the comedy drama written and directed by Award-Winning playwright/director, Ms. Joyce Sylvester. Freeda Peoples takes place in a church and deals with the relationships between the deacons, the trustees and the new pastor. No one is really whom he or she seems to be, in this hilarious comedy drama – loaded with surprises, twists and turns. Freeda Peoples  is pre-teen and up family entertainment.

 The Desire
April 27 – June 23, 2007

Written by actor and Award-Winning independent filmmaker, Jackie Alexander. The Desire deals with a wealthy attorney who is embarrassed when his cousin, a Katrina survivor shows up at his Long Island mansion with nothing but the clothes on his back and secrets from the past.
