Restoration's Center for the Arts and
Culture (CAC) is a multidisciplinary arts
and cultural institution with a mission to
present, promote and preserve the
multicultural arts legacy of people of
African descent and to inform the artistic
development of our community.
CAC endeavors to become the cultural destination
of Central Brooklyn, whereby patrons,
artists, stakeholders, and the community can
experience a plethora of diverse artistic
offerings through Restoration's cultural
programs and cultural partnerships.
CAC currently
comprises the following:
Youth
Arts Academy (YAA):
YAA offers classes in dance, drama, music and arts
literacy, and conducts
residencies and workshops in the New York
City schools through its Arts-In-Action
program. YAA is also home to the renowned
Restoration Dance Theatre Junior Company.
The Skylight Gallery: Located
on the 3rd floor of Restoration Plaza, this
light and airy 2,000 square foot gallery
presents a range of local and
nationally-recognized artists with roots in
the African Diaspora.
CAC's Residency Program:
serves as an incubation lab for
organizations across artistic disciplines.
This program broadens CAC's audience to
include small, but salient cultural
organizations and the constituents they
serve. The Residency Program provides the
organizations the infrastructure support
they need to carry out their missions and
strengthen the capacity of each resident's
overall institution.
-
Billie Holiday Theatre:
Soon to undergo first-class renovations,
this historic 200-seat theatre offers a
full bill of performances each year,
including premiere presentations of
plays written and/or produced by local
artists.
-
Noel
Pointer Foundation- is a
non-profit organization that provides
string, piano, and theory instruction to
students through in-curricular, extra
curricular, Saturday and summer music
programs.
-
Choreoquest: This
exclusive residency offers opportunities
for emerging and accomplished
choreographers to create, develop and
present new works.
-
John Oliver Killens Writers
Workshop: Since its inception,
the John Oliver Killens Writers
Workshop, Inc. has been dedicated to
preserving and presenting the varied
stories of people of the African
Diaspora in particular, and people of
color in general. All of our programs
and activities are extensions of this
commitment.
