This week, 100 excited young men from Excellence Boys Charter School (kindergarten through 4th grade) anxiously exited the school bus to attend their first class at Restoration’s Youth Arts Academy’s –Arts-In-Action afterschool program. These young arts enthusiasts took classes in dance, drama, AND drumming at the academy. Upon arrival that first day, they were welcomed by YAA staff and instructors and introduced to Restoration’s history wall with its esteemed roster...

Food is not just a commodity, it nourishes our bodies, our families and our community, but too many people are not able to make the right choices when it comes to eating healthy. This is especially true in Bedford-Stuyvesant where nearly 15% of residents suffer from diabetes and 27% of adults are obese, higher then the average citywide data of: 12.5% diabetes and 23% obesity rates as researched by the New York City Department of Health (NYC DOH).

Green Construction Graduation

On July 20th, Restoration held a graduation for its most recent cycle of Green Construction. To date, 52 men and women have graduated from the course, which provides 12 weeks of coursework in Construction and Weatherization, focusing on construction skills, concepts and practice of energy efficiency, airsealing, insulation and other techniques for managing air flow and moisture control in residential buildings. Nick Pomo, a graduate from Restoration’s first class addressed the graduates.

LISC’s Annual Neighborhood Tour

On Thursday, July 21st, Restoration hosted a tour of the community for LISC’s annual Neighborhood Tour. This year’s theme, Green and Healthy Communities, allowed Restoration to feature its Weatherization Assistance Program, one of the organization’s longest running and most successful programs, and its Environmental and Sustainability program, one of Restoration’s newest initiatives.

Bed Stuy welcomes its newest hot spot, the Vodou Bar. Entrepreneur and owner of Dahlia’s Café Daphnee Surpris celebrated the grand opening of her new venue on May 5. The event entitled, "The Initiation." featured a live jazz performance by renowned artists Arthur Kell and Jamie Foxwill and included complimentary hors d’oeuvres, desserts provided.
