EITC and Low Cost Tax Assistance

A major untapped source of cash for low income families is the Earned Income Tax Credit.

Approximately 35,000 individuals in Bedford Stuyvesant are eligible for EITC while only roughly 25% actually claimed these returns.  For the second straight year, the Mayor’s Office of Financial Empowerment has awarded Restoration a grant to operate low-cost tax preparation at several convenient sites throughout Bedford Stuyvesant. While an H & R Block representative completes taxes remotely, clients receive public benefit screenings, social service referrals and basic financial literacy- all for the low cost of $20.
