This week, 100 excited young men from Excellence Boys Charter School (kindergarten through 4th grade) anxiously exited the school bus to attend their first class at Restoration’s Youth Arts Academy’s –Arts-In-Action afterschool program. These young arts enthusiasts took classes in dance, drama, AND drumming at the academy. Upon arrival that first day, they were welcomed by YAA staff and instructors and introduced to Restoration’s history wall with its esteemed roster of leaders and pursuits since its founding four and a half decades ago. Their bus trips to Restoration will be used to Boast ‘Bout Brooklyn. In route they are told about the Brooklyn icons such as Shirley Chisholm, Lena Horne, Eubie Blake, Earl Graves, etc. while taking in the sights and sounds of their community. This scenic transport will inspire their creativity and will be ideal time to encourage them as future leaders with an appreciation of the beauty and challenges of their community. The partnership with Excellence Boys is another venture of the Restoration Youth Arts Academy’s –Action-In-Acton program which provides arts integration for NYC public schools, charter schools and community organizations.
