Green Construction Graduation

On July 20th, Restoration held a graduation for its most recent cycle of Green Construction. To date, 52 men and women have graduated from the course, which provides 12 weeks of coursework in Construction and Weatherization, focusing on construction skills, concepts and practice of energy efficiency, airsealing, insulation and other techniques for managing air flow and moisture control in residential buildings. Nick Pomo, a graduate from Restoration’s first class addressed the graduates. Nick told his story, how he was working at an ice skating rink for just a little more than minimum wage before he enrolled in Restoration’s Green Construction training program. Today, he holds 2 BPI certifications and is employed as a small homes energy auditor by New York State Energy Audits, an integral partner in Restoration’s Retrofit Bed Stuy Block by Block initiative. This most recent class was conducted in partnership with the Pratt Center for Community Development with funding from Congressmember Ed Towns’ office. Certificates of Accomplishment were presented by the Congressmember’s office. Also on hand were representatives from State Senator Velmanette Montgomery’s Office and the office of Councilmember Tisha James.
