FIFTH ANNUAL RESTORATION ROCKS KICKS OFF MOS DEF WITH BROOKLYN PHIL, IDLE WARSHIP AND PHAROAHE MONCH AND MORE

Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation’s Center for Arts & Culture will present the 5th Annual Restoration Rocks music festival on October 8th, 2011. The event will take place from 12 to 5pm at Restoration Plaza, 1368 Fulton Street between Brooklyn and New York Avenues.
Mos Def will appear with The Brooklyn Philharmonic will previewing their 2011-2012 season. Other headline performances include: Idle Warship (Talib Kweli and Res), Pharoahe Monch, Homeboy Sandman and Farah Burns. Bedstuy aspiring artist and winners of Restoration Rocks’ first ever online audition will grace the stage: School ov Thought and Imani James.
A free public event, Restoration Rocks has showcased some of the most dynamic emerging and established Brooklyn musicians including John Forté, Toshi Reagon, Jean Grae and Blitz the Ambassador. This year’s event is being hosted in partnership with Lyricist Lounge. Created in 1991, Lyricist Lounge is committed to showcasing and promoting up and coming raw talent while at the same time acknowledging the pioneers in the Hip Hop community.
Restoration Rocks kicks off the week-long Bed Stuy Alive! festival which celebrates the rich artistic legacy and cultural diversity of the Bedford Stuyvesant community. This year’s theme is Live Healthy, Live Well, Live Green and will include green demonstrations and free health screenings along with music, food and a Kids’ Corner.
