SINGLE STOP SITE RELAUNCHED IN BED-STUY

Thursday, October 6, 2011
Single Stop USA, Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration, and Bedford Stuyvesant Community Legal Services collaborated to relaunch the Restoration Single Stop site, where local residents can obtain legal assistance, financial counseling, and benefits screenings free of charge.

On a beautiful, sunny, and breezy day in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, legal services lawyers, social workers, financial counselors, paralegals, and other community advocates gathered in the courtyard of Restoration Plaza to relaunch its Single Stop site. They were joined by Betty Staton, Executive Director of Bedford-Stuyvesant Community Legal Services, Grayce Wiggins, Director of Legal Services for Single Stop USA, and Kizzie Brown-Duah and Blaine Arthur from Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration. Restoration staff provided information about food stamps, job training, and financial assistance. Bed-Stuy Legal Services staff answered questions about housing, unemployment benefits, tax and immigration. Also present were representatives of the Bridge Street Development Corporation, Pratt Area Community Council, and the Coalition for the Improvement of Bedford-Stuyvesant. Single Stop bridges the information gap separating lowincome families from life-changing public benefits, tax credits and other essential services the remain untapped and inaccessible. This Single Stop site works directly with lawyers at Bedford-Stuyvesant Community Legal Services, which is also located in the complex. The event was held from 2:00-5:00PM and was free to the public.
