THE STARS OF NEW YORK DANCE!

The Stars of New York Dance, presented Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge, is a charitable, thrilling and judged dance competition likened to Dancing with the Stars but with the charitable mission of increasing children from low-income communities' access to dance.

Five of New York City's brightest and highly-visible celebrity, corporate and community "Stars", will partner with five principal dancers from community-based dance organizations from high-poverty communities in New York City. The five "Stars" will volunteer their time, step out of their normal roles, give their personal best, and risk everything to dance for children in need.

Here is the 2010 list of fabulous Stars (with pictures below)

The "Stars" will endure weeks of rigorous but riveting dance training to learn a dance routine choreographed by their dance partner in their chosen technique, such as Salsa, Modern, Jazz or African. The night of the event, the five partners will compete to perform the fiercest dance duet. The couple that receives the highest judged score will win a $5,000 Access Award grand prize for their respective dance organization. The other four competing dance organizations will each receive $1,500 Access Awards. The Access Awards will directly fund dance scholarships for children in need to receive innovative, high-quality dance and arts education at these dance organizations.

By providing children in need access to dance and the arts, they receive access to a creative and constructive means of self-expression that builds character. Children become self-confident, disciplined, motivated and develop self-esteem. Ultimately, they are ensured a brighter future with boundless opportunities.
