Affordable Housing Services

Finding Affordable Housing

Through our partnership with the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), our housing ambassadors can provide information and expert assistance with the affordable housing application process. While we do not provide housing directly and cannot guarantee that an applicant will receive an affordable unit through the lottery, our housing ambassadors will provide the tailored support you need to feel confident in applying.

See Restoration’s page on the HPD website.

Eviction Protection

If you have received an eviction notice, we can connect you with a skilled and highly-trained lawyer from  Brooklyn Legal Services, a nonprofit that seeks economic justice for low-income New Yorkers. From there, you will be given the legal assistance you need to address this issue and protect your rights as a renter.

With deep roots in the Brooklyn communities, BLS’s team of 150 staff served over 22,000 Brooklyn residents in the past year alone and works to advocates for the rights of underserved communities including LGBTQ, HIV+, immigrants, veterans, the disabled and the elderly.

Rental Assistance

Our trusted financial counselors can help you acquire the tools and knowledge to achieve financial stability. We will work with you to make productive decisions, including maintaining a budget, that will enable you to prepare for crucial expenses such as rent.

We can also connect you to a wide range of available public benefits that will provide you with the financial support you need to pay your expenses on time. Those benefits include:

HRA Cash Assistance: provides up to 60 months of federally funded cash assistance to eligible households.

HRA One Shot Deal: provides emergency financial assistance to individuals who are unable to pay an expense due to unexpected circumstances.

Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption and Disables Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE and DRIE): assists individuals 62 or older or with qualifying disabilities to pay their rent.
