Youth Arts Academy
Located in the Center for Arts & Culture's three-floor academy building, which spans over 13,000 square feet, YAA offers quality instruction to youth, ages 3 to 19 years old in dance, theater, and African drumming. Moreover, students can enjoy visual arts workshops offered in collaboration with Restoration’s renowned Skylight Gallery.
Classes are offered after school and all day on Saturdays. In addition to onsite classes, YAA provides arts training and professional development workshops in theater, dance, creative writing, and music to over 1,200 students and teachers at Brooklyn-based public schools through its Arts In Action community outreach program. For students interested in pursuing dance professionally, YAA offers a pre-professional curriculum package and holds auditions for its Youth Dance Company, which performs professionally throughout New York City and abroad.
Students learn discipline, respect and artistic excellence in a supportive, creative environment. Unique learning and complementary performance opportunity for YAA students includes DanceAfrica, which is hosted in partnership with the Brooklyn Academy of Music. YAA students are routinely accepted at renowned performing arts high schools; some go on to professional artistic careers on Broadway and film. To learn about YAA programs, call (718) 636-6995.
