Job Plus

On April 15th, 2013, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation launched the Jobs-Plus program in Northern Bedford Stuyvesant to serve residents of Marcy, Lafayette and Louis Armstrong houses in Brooklyn, NY. This employment initiative funded by the NYC Human Resources Administration works both with unemployed and employed public housing residents to help them achieve their employment goals and advance in the labor market. The model also features a community-building component, hiring 10 residents to serve as community outreach workers to strengthen social ties and support for work among residents interested in helping the community towards greater employment and sustainability. Other features includes a comprehensive job training and placement services, access to GED/ESOL, educational/sector-based trainings, child support counseling, work supports, social service referrals, financial counseling, and other financial incentives to help "Make Work Pay" for the residents of New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) developments.
