Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation (Restoration), is the oldest community development corporation (CDC) in the United States. Founded in 1967 through the efforts of Senator Robert F. Kennedy and Jacob Javits, our mission is to be the catalyst for the progressive improvement of the quality of life for the people of Bedford Stuyvesant. We carry out this mission through economic, cultural, educational and social ventures that both revitalize our communities and serve as pioneering models for distressed communities nationwide.

Our vision is for Restoration to be the national benchmark for excellence, as the result of both our organizational strength and our success in Central Brooklyn.

 Our action plan for community development includes:

• Housing rehabilitation and renewal;

• Supporting cultural and recreational institutions
• Strengthening the local workforce
• Job creation and economic development in partnership with private industry;
• Improving educational opportunities for both young people and adult learners;
• Leveraging and coordinating local and regional resources for the benefit of Central Brooklyn neighborhoods.
