The Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation (Restoration) announces the launch of “Wealth Building Tuesday” starting September 12 from 6-8:30 pm at Restoration Plaza, 1368 Fulton Street, (between New York and Brooklyn Avenues) Brooklyn, New York  The sessions are free but require advance registration.

“Our goal is to help eliminate the barriers that prevent individuals from building a financial record that would provide them entry into the economic mainstream.   We want to ensure that residents have access to information, and therefore we are instituting Wealth Building Tuesdays as an ongoing series,” states Bernice McRae, Director of Business Services at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation.

Each workshop series will be 3-4 weeks; individuals can enroll for one session or the entire series.  The inaugural series is being facilitated and taught by Seth Edwards, Vice President at JP Morgan Chase. Topics will include:  “Basic Banking Principles” (September 12), “Personal Financial & Money Management” (September 19) and “Personal Credit Management and Debt Control” (September 26). Seth Edwards, Vice President at JP Morgan Chase states that “banking and credit access affect individuals’ opportunities in housing, employment and other areas of daily life.  We are happy to partner with the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation to present the upcoming financial education workshop series to help eliminate barriers to wealth creation”.

The workshops will be taught by neighborhood banking and business experts and are design to increase banking and credit access to eliminate the barrier that prevents individuals from building a financial record that hinders them from being able to purchase a home or business. Presenters will also include representatives from Washington Mutual, Citibank and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. To enroll in any of the sessions please call (718) 636-6924 or email bmcrae@restorationplaza.org.

For individuals who are starting or expanding a business, future offerings include sessions that will address planning and marketing their business, help them find out what banks are looking for in a borrower, how to protect their assets by choosing the right business formation and where to go to secure funding.
