History
With the help of the community, we have set a path to re-envision Restoration Plaza.
For 50 years, Restoration Plaza has served as a vibrant anchor and cultural hub for the Central Brooklyn community. Rehabilitated in 1972 from its former life as the Sheffield Farms Milk Bottling Plant, the Plaza is an iconic landmark of Bedford-Stuyvesant’s history. It has served as a space for—and source of—nearly every facet of community life, including a venue for concerts, holiday parties, job fairs, farmers’ markets, film screenings and Restoration’s annual 10K run. In 2021, the Plaza added another historic service to its roster as a COVID- 19 Vaccination site.
The Plaza is located in the heart of Central Brooklyn on Fulton Street between New York and Brooklyn Avenues. It is accessible by bus (B44, B44 SBS, B43, B25, B26), subway (Nostrand Avenue A/C and Kingston-Throop Avenues C train) and railroad lines (Long Island Railroad Nostrand Avenue stop).
The Plaza also holds a variety of both indoor and outdoor spaces for community members and vendors to host events. At the same time, many businesses, nonprofits, and human services organizations call Restoration Plaza and the Fulton Street/Nostrand Avenue business corridor home. Businesses range from education, grocery and restaurant, post office, health services, childcare, banks, arts, financial and social services. We also offer commercial leasing and rentals for businesses and nonprofits interested in setting up shop in this thriving community. The Bedford Stuyvesant Gateway Business Improvement District (Bed-Stuy BID) serves the merchants, residents, and patrons on Fulton Street and Nostrand Avenue.
