This summer, we will be offering a series on financial literacy for youth primarily aged 18-24. We will be hosting four webinars of 90 minutes each. Presentations will be held for 45-60 minutes, followed by half an hour of open discussion. The sessions are as follows: 

Strong Start Session 1: July 21st, 2021 – Rules of the Game, 11 AM

This is the introductory session of a four part series, where AGVEP youth can learn how to manage their finances. The webinar looks at the essential questions of what is important for effective money management. Specifically, how do you make decisions, what are your values, and what is necessary to reach your financial goals?  Bring a notebook and get ready to start your journey to financial success!

Strong Start Session 2: July 28th, 2021 – Banking and Budgeting, 11 AM

After the initial overview course, this session helps participants learn effective methods to organize their budget. Some of the goals of the session include helping participants learn how to choose the right bank, create a sustainable budget, and plan for purchases that help them reach their goals.

Strong Start Session 3: August 4th, 2021: Credit and Debt, 11 AM

This session will help AGVEP youth understand the fundamental relationship between credit and debt. The higher the credit score, the more access one has to money at better rates. If you don’t understand how interest works at a young age, you can get into debt very quickly. Counselors will help participants understand the inner workings of credit and debt, encouraging youth to manage their finances effectively.

Strong Start Session 4: August 11th, 2021: Savings and Investment, 11 AM

In the last week of the Strong Start finance course, we will talk about the importance of savings, how to save effectively, and plan for immediate, short term and long term goals. More importantly, we will go beyond the fundamental concepts of money management and help students learn how they can grow their wealth through active and passive forms of income. We will introduce the key concepts of investing, what participants need to know before they start, and how they can build further knowledge on the topic.
